The goal of the Medical App Journal is to index and coalesce in a clinically relevant manner, apps used in medical practice by clinicians to directly or indirectly deliver healthcare.  All apps in the "Medical" category from the App Store in iTunes are automatically downloaded into our database.  Many of these will not meet the journal's criteria and will be deleted from the database.  The following is the criteria required for meeting inclusion into the database:

1). The app's primary purpose must be to inform or influence the clinical practice of healthcare professionals. This may be accomplished in a myriad of ways, including but not limited to: clinical reference apps, literature search apps, clinical decision making apps, electronic medical record (EMR) apps, medical calculator apps and procedural apps. The app must be geared toward clinical practice. 

2). The app must have a user-interface that clearly distinguishes it from an electronic textbook. The app must be an app, not a textbook transferred to a digital medium in a portable document format (.pdf ) or other electronic-text form.

3). The app's primary purpose cannot be for use by patients. This includes apps for patients to diagnose and treat their conditions or apps to guide them on whom or where they should go to for care. However, apps that are designed to assist healthcare professionals educate their patients may be included.

4). No "Lite" or "Trial" versions of apps.  We will only include full-featured versions of apps.

Some Apps may have great merit and utility, but may not meet the criteria established for inclusion into this database.  These include:

- Apps specifically designed for only patients.

- Apps designed as study aides for passing boards and medical certifications (these may be left in the database, but will be categorized in a separate "Student" section).

- Medical information apps for non-clinicians.

- Apps that provide a service for patients (calendars, reminders, medical history diaries, etc).

If the app does not meet our criteria it will be deleted from the database.
